JLDaaaaaark

Situations/bad guys that can't be traditionally reasoned with or... hit, the back up Justice League Dark team comes through.  They're specialty is magic, world of conjure and occult mischief.

From what I understand, John Constantine (not keanu-like, whatsoever), Zatanna, Deadman (previously drawn), Madame Xanadu and Shade: The Changing Man are the team, atleast at first...?

The great Peter Milligan (LOVED Enigma when I was much younger, of course he had Duncan Fegredo on art... who doesn't LOVE Fegredo?!) writes and the quickly growing/bettering artist is Mikel Janin.  Uses a lot of reference for people, or maybe he uses 3-D models...? ...but still you can see where he's going and its quite good.

I can see myself drawing alot more Constantine...

Flash AHaaaaAH!

I was "The Flash" in grade 5 for Hallowe'en,  good times.

Barry Allen was struck by lightening while friggermajigging with chemicals.  And then... super speed superpowers!  Works for me!

The New 52 title is focusing on taking what worked for Flash and evolving it.  Doing interesting and NEW things with his powers.  A very smart and simple revelation was made in issue #2.  Flash's body is fast, but to get FASTER his brain needs to be running faster and processing faster.  Makes sense.

Torontonian Francis Manapul does unbelievably great double duty on art and writing, as does the colorist, Brian Buccellato.

UPDATE:

Threw on some colours.  But I got a little frustrated with using a mouse in photoshop.  I have a wacom... I should learn to use it one of these days.  Oh and... I had trouble finding a red highlight I was comfortable with using.  Red is pretty unforgiving.

Batwing

Bat-wing is wholly new upstart with DC's New52... (as far as I know).  Part of either Batman spreading his mantle/reach across the globe (a la batman incorporated), or simply inspired by the character.  Situated in Africa... somewhwere.  Ok, I don't know much.

Brought to life by Judd Winick (of MTV's way-back "Real World", way-back as in: when the show had more than just jocks and barbies on it ...they actually had a diverse group of interesting people living together in a house and filmed it.  purely insane by todays standards) The art by Ben Oliver is rather incredible, I must say.

I already want to completely redo these drawings.  ah well.  Not very impressed with myself.  But moving on.

Mr. Terrific

The worlds 3rd most smartest man.

"how can Mister Terrific defeat a foe even smarter than himself?  Luckily, the last time he faced a problem he couldn't solve, he perfected infinite fractal mechanics!"

Fun!

He was a Justice Society member in the old DC.  Which is missing from the New 52, but it's seeing a reboot too at somepoint...  Anyway, he's flying solo and using his brains AND brawn to thwart scientific injustice.

Brought to us monthly by Eric Wallace and Gianluca Gugliotti

1000 views! Bonus Batman/Grifter

Not THAT big of a milestone, but I'm gonna celebrate it none-the-less!

A post for C.J.!  Thanks for the support!

This, like most bonus posts is... batman, I've put him more into the new costume than I ever have... so many seams!  And a Grifter added for good measure!

I'm learning alot, and have alot to go, but things like "effects" I'll need to figure out, i.e. shooting a gun, using powers, etc.

Super Duper Mans

Superman, has had a bit of a change.  Most of which are in Action Comics, but the changes last up and through the new Superman title aswell.

Lois and clark aren't married/haven't been an item yet, his identity is a big ol' secret again, his suit is some sort of kryptonian armour with random seams and a military-ish collar (what is his cape attached to?!).

Legendary artist George Perez writes and does layouts for Jesus Marino to pencil from.  Could be a rotating group of artists.  I know Nicola Scott will draw #3...

Oh and I do have every intention of drawing in a cityscape background... just haven't yet.

Swamp Thing

From the Red to the Green!

Explaining Swamp Thing really would be too difficult to paraphrase here.

However, writer Scott Snyder re-caps (and moves the story forward) more eloquently and successfully than I could. Ha. Montreal artist Yanick Paquette has really been going that extra mile to give Swamp Thing full, detailed panel work.  Probably a toss up between Yanick and J.H.Williams III for some of the best panel laying possible in a comic book of the New 52.

In addition to my entry here, I have added a bonus drawing of swamp thing I did years ago aswell.

Animal Man

Buddy Baker, AKA Animal Man.  Has the ability to channel the attributes of any Animal.  Thinks Cheetah, he's super fast.  Thinks Rhino, he's super duper strong/tough.  etc.  You get it.

Grant Morrison had a rather seminal run on the title, where he championed vegetarianism, animal-rights, was a big family-man and famously had Buddy break the fourth wall.

New 52's Animal Man is off to a fantastic start and rave reviews.  It seems Buddy's gift extends into his blood-line.  His daughter is able to raise dead animal life and just so happens to be at the centre/protaganist of a mythic prophecy. ooh la la.

Written by fellow Southern Ontarian Jeff Lemire (buy his Vertigo Title "Sweet Tooth" trades.  do it.) and drawn by the unique pencil of Travel Foreman.

Action Comics Again

Y'know... I'm actually loving this new clark kent/superman in Action Comics.  He's got Moxie.  Something he's either hasn't had in a long time... or never had.

I have never been very sure drawing superman ever, but this one... he seems more accessible.  The "Superman" title... not so much, but Action Comics makes me wish more of the DCNU or New 52 went this deep of a reboot.

All Star Western

K well, I am a bit busy with another project so this post lacks some... meat.  I do have another Sketch that will require some refinement, and I'll post it at a later date.

All Star western stars Jonah Hex in an olde timey Gotham.  He's a north vs south vet cutting his way with bullets, attitude and a deformed face.

Written by Jimmy Palmiotti (yeah, I have the ash comics) and Justin Gray.  Mad cartoonist Moritat draws.

10 Posts = Bonus Batman!

Was feeling like the images weren't very dynamic, so I played with some light and angle.

Never enough Batman Drawings.

and my sad attempt at colouring.

Red Hood and The Outlaws

This ragtag group is at the centre of a bit of controversy, but whatever, anyone who has seen Jackie Brown shouldn't be too shocked at some of the behaviour.

Stars former robin Jason Todd as Red Hood, another former sidekick, speedy (Green Arrow) and  Starfire.

Aquaman swims

I read somewhere that the whole point of "New 52" was to make Aquaman cool again.

They're off to a good start.

Written by DC's almost head-honcho, Geoff Johns and Drawn by the incomprable Ivan Reis, a man that makes comic book drawing seem effortless and heroic.

Batwoman!

She's certainly fun to draw!  The first sketch was a disaster, then... I found a rhythm to her.

Batwoman is semi-affiliated with batman himself, I havent really read enough of her past to know the ins and outs. Speaking of outs, she's a lesbian character, that is smart and strong and really... that detail is normal, but I remember during her creation it was a BIG part of the media around her.  Accompanied by a girl that she's training a la robin.  The girl used to be another superheroine named "flamebird."

The "New 52" Batwoman comic is a GORGEGEOUS masterclass in technique, design, detail and panel composition.  J.H. Williams III (who also handles writing duties with W. Haden Blackman)  is squeezing so much out of every single panel in that comic.  Ridiculous.  It in one hand, humbles you and causes doubts in your abilities, THEN on other hand, it inspires you, he shows you whats possible and it should really evoke that same ambition in you.

seriously, look: http://comics.cosmicbooknews.com/content/dc-comics-preview-batwoman-2

Deadman is dead... Man

Super quick sketch.

Deceased acrobat that in the afterlife, in very quantum leap fashion, jumps in and out of peoples bodies, gets acquainted with their situation, then fixes their problems...most of the time (even though I think he came WELL before that show, you get the point easier).

Paul Jenkins writes "DC Universe Presents - Deadman" art by Bernard Chang and covers by the incredible Ryan Sook.
