Red robin bonus

Red Robin thinks so hard he looks sad. But he's not. He's just thinking.

Thinking hard.

About his cool hair.

The Savage Hawkman is savage.

Hawkman!

Many iterations over the years.  Or I guess source, or origin of powers, this one seems to combine the usual suspects.  Egyptian god + Nth Metal + Wing harness + Carter Hall = Hawkman.

He can wing (pardon the pun) any kind of weapon since the Nth metal is a malleable and almost liquid metal (hence why the golden axe has texture).  It can transform into any shape he wants... he'd be a marvel in the kitchen no doubt.  But since he's a hothead superhero that likes to hit things, its usually maces, swords and axes.  You know, savagey stuff.

I hear the infamous Rob Liefeld will be handling the plotting duties for a while.

Static Shock

A teen superhero with Electricity powers.  Was part of the "Milestone" comic book line introduced in the 90's.  An admirable effort to spotlight black superheroes.  To its detriment, though I understand the desire to make it appeal to the most readers, all the characters were parallels of popular superheroes.  But I guess most new characters are anyway.  This character, as well as others from the Milestone line were folded into the New52 DC universe. But only Static shock got his own title this time around.

Sad to say, it has been canceled.  I didn't think I would run out of time to showcase drawings on all the 52 before any of the titles were canceled...

So this is a stand up ode to a fallen title.  Im sure he'll be around elsewhere in DC anyway.

Written and drawn by Scott McDaniel (LOVED his nightwing run WAAAAAAAAAAAY back).

Birds of prey

A group of DC heroines join up and fight injustice together.  There's a base team, and other female members from the universe sub in, depending on the needs of the scenario.  I've only read issue #4 and it was alot of fun.

Dug a bit deeper for this one.  Especially since women are NOT my forté.

Doing a lot of inking in the new year.  I'm finding it hard to see the need to pencil (after blue pencil construction) when you can just leap to inks... Lots of posts to come.

Deathstroke

Deathstroke, the Terminator.  He's an age-before-beauty, one-eyed bad-ass was more typically a "bad guy" in the old DC, now he's more of a force-of-nature mercenary.

I was actually quite surprised how much I liked this title.  Maybe cause I wasn't expecting much...?

Fun title written by Kyle Higgins and drawn by Joe Bennet.

Finally started using PITT Faber-Castell ink markers.  Where have they been all my life? lol.

Captain Atom

Captain Atom, your primative intellect wouldn't understand, but he handles things like alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures.

Nightwinging

Nightwing.

Original Robin, Dick Grayson, after a turn at being The Batman (a second time) for a while is back as Nightwing... again.  Not confusing.  I promise.

Just a couple sketches.

I fought a pretty taxing bout of "loss of artistic confidence" (as my therapist called it) to continue drawing and do some pretty ambitious things this year.

Fury of Firestorm!!!

Firestorm is the ongoing adventures of two dudes that can't stand eachother, have the "firestorm" transformational super-powers (scientifically can transform elements into other elements, turn fire into water, baking soda into gold, stuff like that) which they are in control of but should they lose control, get angry, they combine to make a horrific elemental monster firestorm.

Gail Simone and Ethan Van Sciver did write, but now Joe Harris and Ethan Van Sciver write the monthly title, with Yilderay Cinar on art.

Green Arrow

Now the Batman Parallels are unavoidable... but rich mega-mogul Oliver Queen decides to buy super gadgets and fight crime.  Namely a Bow and arrow.  known for his "trick arrows" like... the punching glove arrow.

He was a jolly swashbuckling like fellow, but has since become more cerebral and serious.  No punching glove arrows anymore.  sadly.

JT Krul WAS writing, but now Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgans, along with Dan Jurgans on art duties provides us with the monthly adventures.

Batman & Robin

Ok so, I wasn't happy with the OTHER sketch as my Batman & Robin entry.  I definitely dug much deeper for this piece.  Batman & Robin leaping outta the Batmobile!

And the media difference (ink vs. pencil) is very much noticable.  I bought a Faber-Castell Pitt brush marker, quite a famous tool in the comic book and graphic fields, but I had yet to try.  I liked its ease of use for sure (spotting blacks has always been difficult for me, this helps negotiate with your fear of "wrecking it").

Batman & Robin is the comic of Bruce Wayne and his SON Damian Wayne working out the dynamic of being crime-fighting partners and having family drama. Written by Peter Tomasi and Drawn by Patrick Gleason

Batman and Robin

Pretty self Explanatory.

Men of War

Men of War is the NEW Sgt. Rock cutting his teeth on leadership with the boys of easy company... and becoming sgt rock.  Its primarily a war/military book that flirts with the DC universes' superpowered peeps and situations.

This is just a sketch I was doing that kinda fleshed out more than I intended to, and I wasn't gonna post it, but I thought it was too ridiculous NOT to post it.  ha.  The jumping panel really needs to be its own spash page.  A truer Men of War entry is coming.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E.

He and a group of lively un-dead folk are sent out on missions, eliminate other bigger, less reasonable monsters.  Frank wears some pretty cool torn victorian/colonial military garb, and has a giant bat-gatling gun.

Written by Jeff Lemire (writes the fantastic Animal Man and Sweet Tooth) and drawn by the either brilliant or insane (I seriously can't tell) Alberto Ponticelli
